The Kindergarten classrooms were updated. These classrooms would get very hot during the day and the school children would have a very hard time learning in the afternoon. The classes were updated with new roofs that were able to ventilate the mid-day heat. Also the classroom walls and floors were updated top better accommodate the school children.
The school borehole/water well project was finally completed. This was one of the largest school projects and took a lot of time to complete. The school now has its own water source. The school was spending a lot of resources and manpower in daily acquiring water for various school functions. The provision of water, daily, impacts lives and unlocks potential. The goal of providing access to clean, safe water helps capable and determined students realize the hope they have for their own futures by focusing on their studies.
New Bathrooms and Toilets were successfully updated at the school.
Electricity was finally connected to the school.
Two major projects are currently being undertaken at the school. An amazing small team of Dental Surgeons and their assistants from Nairobi visited Philemon Memorial Academy in Kochia and setup a successful Dental camp for the school scholars at no charge to the school. This Dental camp was primarily sponsored by Colgate-Palmolive and other private donors.
Most of the school scholars were excited to see the dental team and they gave them a hearty welcome during assembly. Initially, it seemed that with only a team of four, the scholars numbering above a hundred would overwhelm them but that did not turn out to be the case. They in fact made it look so easy. They donated their time because of their vision of ensuring the Kenyan community’s children have access to high-quality pediatric care for generations to come.
We applaud them for their service and skill.
